The 2010 baseball season looks to be another great year for the Fighting Wildcats baseballtTeam. With All-State right hander Kurt McCune, and All District Shortstop Sam Carriere leading the way, a return trip to the state tournament is expected.

The 2009 Wildcats were 23-13 and 65A District Champions, and returned to the state tournament for the sixth time since 2002. With just 3 returning players and McCune as the only established pitcher, most programs would consider this a rebuilding year.

The 2010 team was very successful during the summer with a 19 and 6X record and a fifth straight American Legion 2nd District West championship. The talent level and the competition for playing time will heat up in the spring.

The pitching staff will be led by Kurt McCune, who will be joined in the rotation by Matt Smith, Brandt Bourgeois and Dylan Lucich.  The bullpen will be led by Sam Carriere, Ethan Hutson and Scott Stonestreet.  Newcomers Walter Johnson, Ryan Burks, Jesse Bryant and Austin Gab could fight for mound time.

The catching position will be manned by letterman Devin Demare, and Cameron Quigley. Freshman Jesse Bryant and Tanner Hayes will fight for a place in the bullpen.

The infield will be patrolled by Shortstop Sam Carriere (the districts Gold Glove winner in 09), with returner Matt Smith at 3rd. McCune will play 1st when not on the mound, and Gino Saltaformaggio will play 1st and designated hitter when not at 1st. Second base will be a battle between Seth Montz and Scott Stonestreet, with Junior Ryan McDonald and Freshman Jace Weber in the wings.

The Outfield is a wide open race with Zack Schexnaydre (BA .476) giving notice during the summer that he intends to hit behind McCune in the 5 hole.  With Schexnaydre in left the rest of the outfield will be wide open with six players hoping to win a starting position. The possible starters are Senior Dylan Lucich, Juniors Edwin DeLaCruz,  Jarrius Vinnett, Sophmores Trey Krajcer, Walter Johnson or Ryan Burks.

The 2010 Coaching Staff will remain the same with Head Coach Marty Luquet beginning his 9th season leading the Fighting Wildcats. Assistant Coaches Donnie Diodene  (infield/outfield), Bill Calhoun (pitchers),  Craig Perrier (hitters and JV), and Kenny Montz and Troy Desentz handing the freshman team.
