Child Nutrition is looking forward to "Setting Sail to New Beginnings" this year!

St. Charles Parish Public Schools participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.  Our menus offer a variety of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, low fat or reduced fat entrees, and low fat or skim milk choices.  Our menus are designed to meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, as well as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations.  Please check the menu section of this website for the latest menus.  We hope that your child will join us for breakfast or lunch this year!

We value student feedback!  Each school year, Child Nutrition surveys students about both new menus and existing menus.  This allows us to continuously improve our programs and customer satisfaction.   Based on student feedback, we are making some minor changes to our menus for the 2018-2019 school year. Of course, local flavor is always a consideration when planning our menus.  We currently use local seasoning from Chef Paul Prudhomme (Magic Seasonings), Jambalaya Girl (special recipe of jambalaya and gumbo seasoning blends), and Leidenheimer po-boy bread for our subs.

Student engagement is key to a successful program!  Our department is pleased to report that our student engagement programs are growing and providing positive results.  These programs include Student Focus and Taste testing, Nutritional Education Connection Tour (NEXT) for 2nd-grade students, and the Annual Child Nutrition Culinary Cook-Off.

    • Student Focus and Taste test groups consist of the Student Government groups at both high schools, as well as many elementary and middle schools.
    • The NEXT program provides students an opportunity to learn about the meals they eat at school, tour the kitchen, create a healthy snack, and learn about nutrition.
    • The Culinary Cook-Off is designed to engage the Culinary Arts students at the Satellite Center to find some new recipes that are student approved.

The Child Nutrition Department truly enjoys working with and gaining feedback from our customers.  Make sure to check out our new Student Engagement Page.

Did you know that consuming breakfast is a great way for your child to start their day! Our breakfast menus are prepared daily and are ready when your child arrives.  Of course, the freshly baked biscuit is our number one seller--but not the only choice.  In addition to our featured daily menu, we offer a variety of choices that include Kellogg's cereals, Yoplait yogurt, cheese, and fresh fruit.  Studies have proven that eating breakfast every day improves academic performance and increases the ability to focus and concentrate on schoolwork.  Please encourage your child to eat breakfast every day.  We are happy to serve them!

    Warmest Regards,
