Bachelor of Fine Arts - Nicholls State University

Mrs. Amanda Adams

Hello! I'm Mrs. Adams. I am one of the two Art 1 teachers here at Hahnville, and a proud HHS alum. This is my first full year here after completing half a year in the 21-22 school year.

  • In Art 1, we will be exploring the elements of art through developing technical skills in different art media, art criticism, and discussing art history and artwork. The goal of the course is that students will be able to hold informed discussions about artwork and show growth over time in their artistic skills, even if they have not taken an art class since elementary school. Students will be monitoring their own progress through projects, self-assessment, and maintaining a sketchbook over the duration of the course.

Materials students will want to have daily for class:

    • Sketchbook*- A 50-page sketchbook will be provided at the beginning of the semester, but students may need an additional one later in the semester if they run out of pages.
    • Chromebook
    • Notebook
    • Folder for handouts
    • Pencils (#2)
    • Pens
    • Highlighters (optional for note-taking)

Materials students may want to have for their personal use:

    • Pencils
    • Sharpie Markers (Ultra Fine)
    • Colored Pencils
    • Ruler
    • White Erasers
    • Scissors
    • Glue

Due to the recent pandemic, some students may feel more comfortable with their own materials for their exclusive daily use. These materials are also recommended to have at home to ensure that should your child miss class or need additional time outside of class for assignments, they are able to complete them at home.

  • 2022-2023 Syllabus

The syllabus includes a general overview of the course, how students are graded, the daily materials list, and procedures for being absent, turning in assignments (on time and late!), and use of technology in the classroom. Included with the syllabus is a syllabus agreement which will need to be signed and dated by both the student and their parent/guardian.

This is due at the end of the first week of each semester.
