Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year here at Destrehan High. I will be teaching my favorite subject, World Geography, again this year and look forward to a great semester with all of you. On a personal note, I was born and raised in St. Charles Parish, graduated from Destrehan High, and my teaching degree is from Nicholls State University. I also have a master’s degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in Educational Leadership. Whether you are a student or a parent, my primary interest is in seeing that you have a very rewarding and successful experience with my class and our school. The purpose of this course is to help students gain a better understanding of the world around us and to equip students with the tools needed to be a capable and informed citizen. Below, I have listed the basic rules, grading scales, and requirements for this class. I know we will have a great semester together! Parents and students, please sign the bottom of this letter to indicate that you have received and read the classroom policies. Thank you. --- K.Montz
Class Management / Class Discipline Approach
At Destrehan High School we take a Restorative Approach to discipline. Our primary focus, in conjunction with teaching and learning, is to build positive and working relationships. My discipline management plan will be consistent with the following restorative action steps:
Remind – students will be reminded of rule(s) or directions
Redirect – students will be specifically redirected to the task at hand
Relocate – students will be relocated to either reflect upon (mis) behavior, calm down, or removed from a potentially disruptive situation (If necessary)
Reflect – students will be guided to reflect upon what happened, what could have prevented the situation, and how to make amends to the appropriate parties (If necessary)GRADING:
80% of the final grade is from class grades; 20% of the final grade is from Final Exam.
CLASS GRADING SYSTEM:
Summative Assessments (tests, large projects): 60% of class grade
Formative Assessments (class work, homework, quizzes, and small projects): 40% of class grade
** Note: If you are absent, missed work must be made up within an acceptable time frame.
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR WORLD GEOGRAPHY:
1. 3 Ring binder w/loose leaf
2. Jump Drive
3. pencils & ink pens
4. Color Pencils
