The Transportation Department is looking forward to welcoming the students back for the 2020-2021 school year! Our staff is getting ready to meet your child at the bus stop on August 6th and 7th. We added some helpful information and tips to the website this summer to ensure a safe and successful ride.
We employ 145 bus operators, 35 monitors, a router and special needs clerk, East Bank and West Bank dispatchers, and clerical staff to ensure our students travel safely to and from school. In addition, our Service Department maintains and repairs our district-owned fleet of 153 buses. This department is staffed with mechanics, mechanic helpers, preventive maintenance staff, as well as supervisors to oversee the operation.
Our dedicated staff of 180 drivers and monitors goes through extensive training on federal and state laws, student behavior management, transporting students with special needs, and safety regulations before transporting students. We want to provide the safest ride for our students and you can help by reviewing the bus rules and safety tips before your child boards the bus. Please check the “Bus Rules and Safety Tips” page of the website to find helpful tips for a successful and safe ride.
Did you know St. Charles Parish Public Schools owns 153 school buses? All buses are equipped with air conditioning and an interior video camera system. Over 7,000 students are transported to and from school daily. Our school buses travel over 1,380,000 miles per year transporting students to and from school. It is our goal to safely transport students to and from school on time. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work through the many new protocols, routines, procedures, and adjustments needed for COVID-19. Our bus operators are responsible for new tasks including taking temperatures and cleaning busses in between each run. - And insure the safety and well being of every student and passenger
We will become a model transportation program for St. Charles Parish, the State of Louisiana, and ultimately the nation. We will partner with school officials at all levels, parents and the community, and students of all ages to achieve and maintain the goal of accident free, conflict free transportation as we contribute to our student’s overall education and learning experiences.
Our buses will surpass all vehicle maintenance standards. Students, staff and the community will express pride and confidence in our bus fleet.
We recognize the responsibility for achieving these goals is ours.
