    Dear Hurst Families,

We would like to introduce ourselves. Our names are Meghan Duplessis and Tina Chaisson; we are the counselors at Harry Hurst Middle School. Both of us are excited about the 2023-2024 school year and think that it will be a great one! The counseling program at Harry Hurst Middle School is designed to assist your child in making the most of his or her educational experience.  As your child’s counselors, we are concerned about his/ her personal well-being, academic success, and social development.

Mrs. Duplessis earned a master’s degree in counselor education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2011. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). In 2022, Mrs. Duplessis received the honor of being named the Louisiana Middle School Counselor of the year. This is her 12th year here at Hurst. She previously taught middle school English at J.B. Martin Middle school from 2007-2012. Mrs. Duplessis will be the counselor for teams 4, 5, and 6 (Students in 8th Grade and ½ of 7th Grade).

Mrs. Chaisson earned a master's degree in psychological counseling from Nicholls State University in 2000. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She is also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Nationally Certified School Counselor (NCSC). In 2021, Mrs. Chaisson received the honor of being named the Louisiana Middle School Counselor of the year. This is her 8th year at Hurst Middle School. She has previously been a counselor at J.B. Martin Middle School and at Creative Family Solutions.   Mrs. Chaisson will be the counselor for teams 1, 2, and 3 (Students in 6th Grade and 1/2 of 7th Grade).

Some services provided by the counseling program include, but are not limited to:

    • Individual Counseling
    • Career Exploration (Individual Graduation Plans, Interest Inventories, Career Portfolios)
    • Classroom Guidance Lessons on various topics (Bullying, Respect, Self-Esteem, Test Anxiety, etc)

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the following services to your child or to parents:

    • Testifying in court in child-custody matters
    • Intensive long-term counseling services when they are needed by the child; we will however, refer the child and parent to an outside agency where they may receive further assistance

We look forward to your child’s participation in the school counseling program this year.  We are excited about working with you to help your child have a successful school experience.  If you have any questions about the counseling program, please feel free to contact us at (985)-764-6367 or via email at the below addresses:
