    The Desty Darlings are the dance team for Destrehan High School. They are currently ranked 9th in the Nation for hip hop and are the 2019 Louisiana American AllStar State Champions in both jazz and hip hop.

    The Destys attend UDA camp each year. This past summer at UDA camp in Baton Rouge, the girls received the Super Spirit Sticks the first night of camp voted on by the UDA staff members. Four of our members auditioned and were selected for All American and were invited to perform in London. The Destys received superior ratings on their Performance Routine and also received the Full Out Award also voted on by the staff. Three girls received a Pin It Forward Pin, and our seniors were invited to audition for UDA staff. The seniors were also invited to perform at the Citrus Bowl in Florida. Every Desty received a blue ribbon on their individual routines qualifying the team for a superior trophy. The Destys received a superior rating for home routine and earned first place in the Small Varsity Division. As a result, the girls once again qualified to attend the UDA National Dance Team Championship in Orlando in January of 2020 which is televised on ESPN.

    The Destys are presently preparing for the upcoming season working on football halftime routines, pep rally routines, and stand routines. The Destys practice on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays during football season and weekends and holidays for competition.

    The Destys are presently under the direction of Micque Voges. Ms. Voges is a teacher at Schoeffner Elementary. She has been a teacher there for 28 years where she was also teacher of the year in both 1996 and 2006. Ms. Voges presently teaches 5th grade ELA. She has also been a dance instructor/choreographer for over 30 years. She is currently a faculty member and choreographer at Kelli’s Kreative Dance. Her competitive numbers have won several 1st place national titles as well as many regional overall and specialty awards.

    The Destys are also under the direction of assistant director Desiree Acosta. Desiree is a Destrehan High School Alumnae where she was highly active on the Desty Darlings Dance Team for four years. Desiree worked for the company American AllStar where she worked with Jr. and High school dance teams as well as judged many dance competitions. She received a BA from Southeastern University in Sports and Entertainment Management and a minor in Dance. Desiree was president of the sorority Alpha Sigma Tau her senior year and is now a Business Director at Chick-fil-A.
