Welcome to my Adapted Physical Education class.--Is this working?

I am an itinerant teacher homebased at Hahnville High School. I also service Allemands Elementary  and Moton Elementary School.This is my 32nd year teaching and my 6th year at Hahnville High School. I am looking forward to teaching your students.

I graduated from Grambling State University in Health and Physical Education with a Bachelors of Education.  I received a certification in Adapted Physical Education and a Masters in Education Administration from the University of New Orleans. I have taught Adapted Physical Education for 20+ years in Orleans Parish and 2 years at Belle Chasse Academy. Also, I coached track and field in Orleans parish.

I love working with the special needs population. I enjoy working with each child's abilities and trying to develop activities that are both enjoyable; as well as, physically challenging within their capabilities. My curriculumn is designed around meeting individual needs. I will  provide effective instruction that is assessment driven, developmentally skill based and standards based. Instruction will be aligned with the general education curriculum and based on the current research teaching strategies. Instruction will be motivational, functional and fun with the goal of transitioning students from small group skill based instruction to large group general physical education class.

I will monitor student abilities and progress through numerous assessment measures including formative and summative assessment, authentic assessment and multidisciplinary assessment in the student’s natural learning environment.
