Mrs. Julie Rexford
Welcome to my STEAM class. This is my 14th year teaching and my 9th year at Hurst Middle School. I am looking forward to teaching your student this school year.
The STEAM Class is a hands-on project based approach to explore real life problems and propose solutions. This class will integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics into the projects helping students to build skills in these disciplines. Students will not only build knowledge in these disciplines but will build their skills in problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration and communication, preparing them for future work and career opportunities in the 21st Century. Projects will focus on the design process and well as science and engineering practices. Types of projects include robotics, coding, circuits, architecture and digital media.
This year, I will incorporate Google Classroom with our district provided Chromebooks. Google Classroom is a tool that allows me to post announcements and reminders for students. It also allows for class assignments and submissions to be posted to and collected digitally.
To access Google Classroom please use the following link https://classroom.google.com/ and have your child log into their Google account. Once logged in, you can review class announcements, assignments and course information. You can also view Google Docs from the "Google Classroom" link on the left side of the menu. You can locate their username and password on a sticker located inside the front cover of their planner.
Starting the week of March 30, 2020, I will hold a weekly virtual class for each grade level. The schedule is as follows:
6th Grade - Thursday, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
7th Grade - Tuesday, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
8th Grade - Wednesday 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Office Hours - Mondays 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Students need to log into their Google Classroom and use the link posted to join the classroom at the designated time. I look forward to seeing everyone this week!
Students need to check Powerschool for any missing assignments. If a student is missing an assignment, they can complete and submit for a grade. This includes any assignment that currently has a 0.
