School Closure Updates

  • Update: 5/17/2020

    Hey Y'all,

We made it! It is our last week of school!

I just want to give a huge shoutout to my friends who have worked so hard to get all of their assignments completed and turned in throughout our at-home learning! You guys are rocking it! Thank you so much for all the work you and your child are putting in, as well as setting up one-on-one conferences and being so prompt. Keep working hard throughout our last week!

Again this week, I am expecting our kids to check our Google Classroom DAILY and complete all of the assignments on our weekly schedule each and every day. We have some really great virtual field trips for our last week of learning! Make sure your child is working through EACH assignment on the schedule, including Zearn and Lexia.

As always, please reach out to me with any questions on concerns.

    Let's Finish Strong!

    Update: 5/11/2020

    Hey My Friends,

Again, I am super pleased with all of the hard work our kiddos have put in when completing all of their assignments each day. Keep it up!

Again this week, I am expecting our kids to check our Google Classroom DAILY and complete all of the assignments on our weekly schedule each and every day. Make sure your child is working through EACH assignment on the schedule, including Zearn and Lexia. I am noticing those two lessons are being passed over.         I have already completed most one-on-one conferences in the past two weeks. I still have a few of you that I need to meet with this week. I will be reaching out to those of you on Monday morning to set up a time for this week. Please answer this phone call, as I am completeing a reading fluency and comprehension assessment on the  conference we will set up.

As always, please reach out to me with any questions on concerns. I will also be available to talk face-to-face in my Google Meet office hours daily. To find me during these times, go to our Google Classroom and click the link next to the words "Meet Link" at the top of the page.

    • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 1:00PM - 2:00PM
    • Tuesday, Thursday: 9:00AM - 10:00AM

I am hoping to get all of the kiddos on our Google Meet again this Friday from 1:00PM - 2:00PM. They really enjyed seeing each other and chatting last time! Please join!

    Update: 04/19/2020

    Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic Spring Break.

As you have been informed, we will not be returning to our classroom this school year. What this means for us is that we will participate in Distant Learning for 3 weeks; April 27 - May 1, May 4 - May 8, and May 11 - May 15. For these three weeks, your child will participate in required online learning, completing assignments daily. There will be an assignment schedule posted the Friday prior to each week. (posted on this webpage and on our Google Classroom) This assignment schedule will include lessons on Zearn, MyON, Lexia, and our Google Classroom. This schedule will guide our kiddos through the week. In addition, they should log on to our Google Classroom DAILY for reminders and/or changes. I will also be on Google Meet daily from 1:00PM- 2:00PM in case of questions or needing help with any assignments.

This week, April 20 - 24, we will be doing a "trial- run". Together, we will test out using Google Meet. This will take place on Wednesday, April 22 from 1:00PM - 2:00PM, I will be available on Google Meet for you to log-on. Directions to do so will be posted on Wednesday morning on our Google Classroom page. I encourage you to test this out so you are all familiar with how to use Google Meet. On Wednesday afternoon, I will post a "trial- run" schedule for Thursday and Friday of this week.  I highly encourage you to complete the assignments on this schedule with your child. This will get you and your child familiar with completeing assignments, so when we begin on Monday, April 27, it will go smoothly. I will be available on Google Meet from 1:00PM - 2:00PM on Thursday and Friday as well.

I know this is a lot of information to take in. That is why we are using this week to practice and get all of your questions answered. Please take this time with your child to learn how our Distant Learning will work. As usual, I am also available by email, text, and call. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

I have also linked more information about our Distant Learning "Phase III Learning" under the links section.

    Love, Ms. Calamusa

             Update: 04/09/2020

    Hello All!

I have really enjoyed seeing our kids interacting with myself and their classmates on our new Google Classroom! I would like for them to log on to our classroom DAILY to visit the various resources I post, as well as interact with their classmates. If you have not logged in to our Google Classroom, please do so ASAP. If you need more information to get logged on please contact me!

Over the next few weeks, there are a few websites that will be very important for your child to be logging on and becoming familar with. These websites are: myONZearnand Google Classroom. In order to keep all of your information for these websites organized, I would suggest that you write all of their login information down in one place that is easily accessible for your child so they can become independent when logging on. If you are unsure of any login information for either myON, Zearn, or Google Classroom please reach out to me! I have all of this information on hand. I would really love if you can get your child on these sites DAILY.

I hope you and your family has a wonderful Easter! I will be sharing some fun Easter activity ideas on our Google Classroom, so be on the lookout! Stay Safe and Stay Healthy.

    Love, Ms. Calamusa

You will also find under our links section to the left, (highlighted in red) another set of directions for joining our class. Please join ASAP. Thanks y'all!

    Update: 03/30/2020

Dear Super Second Graders and Parents/Guardians,

I miss spending my days in the classroom with each of you, very much! I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. I know each of you are continuing your learning at home in many different and fun ways. I have loved getting updates and pictures of your learning from your parents/guardians! I have been spending my time reading, gardening, taking care of my animals, spending quality time with my family, and of course missing all of you. I cannot wait to hear about all of the fun things you have been doing when we return!

On this page, I will be posting/sharing things for you to do at home to help you continue to grow your brain! Every thing that I post here will help you to review what we have already learned during the year together.

Parents/Guardians, I have posted some additional resources (including the ones I have already shared with you all via text) that can provide your child with valuable practice of the skills we have already learned thus far. Some of these additional resources include:  a "sample schedule", that can aid you in creating a routine to utilize the at-home learning resources, a link to the district-made work packets, the link to the SCPPS FAQ's page, etc. Please remember, this review work is not required, they are suggested resources to utilize to help your child keep an active and learning mind.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate reach out to me. I will update this page weekly with the latest/most recent information. Please continue to check back on this page. I will be reaching out to all families this upcoming week via phone call. I look forward to being back together as soon as possible. Stay Safe!

    Love, Ms. Calamusa
