Early Childhood Community Network
The Louisiana Department of Education has been engaged in a statewide effort to strengthen early learning services for “Kindergarten Readiness” in response to the Early Childhood Care and Education Act of 2012. The mission is to unify publicly funded preschool, Head Start and Child Care programs into local Networks so that families have easy access to high-quality early learning options that put every child in need on track to enter school ready to learn.
The St. Charles Parish Public School District serves as the lead agency for the local Network of early learning provider partners in our community. This involves the coordination of essential activities such as curriculum, classroom observation, assessment, enrollment and other resources.
The district’s preschool classes in the elementary schools and Head Start as well as the 8 Type III community child care centers participate in the St. Charles local Network: Boutte Christian Academy, Children’s Book of Knowledge, Four Stars Childcare Facility, Kidz Academy, Kidz at Work of Destrehan, LLC., Mimi’s Lil Schoolhouse, Riverbend Child Care & Preschool and Small World Daycare & Learning Center.
The parish has one unified Network Registration Application for all early childhood programs. The application provides the opportunity for families to make a selection of first, second and third choices on the application to programs and centers within the Network. Applications are available online and at all program sites. Keep in mind that, in addition to the Network Registration Application, each program will have its individually required qualifying documentation and registration information.
We invite all families to attend the Annual Network Registration Outreach event at the School Board Office on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 9am to noon. The event will provide the opportunity for families to meet all network program partners and to access assistance in completing the application process.
