Welcome to Choir!
Though this is my first year teaching choir at Hahnville High School, it is my fifteenth year teaching music. I have experience teaching and conducting at the university, high school, junior high, community child/youth, and community adult choir levels. I look forward to sharing my expertise and passion for choral music with you this year. Our Choir course offerings this year are: Women’s Intermediate Choir, Men’s Intermediate Choir, Advanced Mixed Choir (Vocal Ensemble), and Advanced Women’s Choir (Varsity).
My own choral training began at South Terrebonne High School where I was a choir student in Mr. Howard Nixon’s choir. I continued my music study at Nicholls State University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal music and later Teacher Certification. I taught in the Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish School Districts for 6 years at the high school and junior high levels before returning to school to pursue Master of Music in Choral Conducting at University of Mississippi. From there, I continued graduate coursework at Louisiana State University and received my Doctor of Music in Choral Conducting. I went on to become an associate professor of music at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. During my eight years teaching there I conducted ensembles and taught music education, choral music, vocal music, and musicianship sequence courses. I also had the opportunity to conduct the Paducah Symphony Youth Chorus in a neighboring community, Paducah, Kentucky. From Kentucky, I returned to the gulf coast and taught for one year at Santa Fe High School and Junior High before returning to southeastern Louisiana to be closer to family after the birth of my daughter.
I am so excited to be here teaching at Hahnville High School. This school has had a long history of excellent choral music and I hope to continue that legacy in my time here.

Supplies for Choir will include:
Concert Attire for Performances (TBA)
*Note that some of the extra-curricular activities for choir (i.e. festivals or honor choirs) will require a registration or participation fee and performance attire as deemed appropriate.
Special Note about SARS-CoV-2 and Choir:
To best mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in choir, students will be required to wear a well-fitting face mask (no gaiters) at all times. As of today (9/28/20) we allowed to sing outdoors (masked and socially distanced). We are only allowed to hum indoors (masked and socially distanced) in 30 minute intervals to reduce the potential spread of the virus through aerosol transmission.
I use Google Classroom in my class and we will be using Chromebooks provided by our district and the by the generous contribution of our friends at Valero.
Google Classroom is a tool that allows me to post announcements and reminders for students. It also allows for class assignments and submission to be posted and collected digitally. We will also use Flipgrid for Vocal Performance Assessments while we are not able to sing indoors.
Assignments and materials will be listed on Google “Classwork” page. The “Stream” will be used to post reminders and each day’s at-home assignment.
To access Google Classroom:
Please use the following link https://classroom.google.com/ and have your child log into their Google account. Once logged in, you can review class announcements, assignments, and course information. You can also view Google Docs from the "Google Classroom" link on the left side of the menu.
