Oh, the Places You’ll Go with Child Nutrition!
Welcome to Child Nutrition! We are excited for the upcoming school year.
All St. Charles Parish Public Schools participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Our menus offer a variety of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, low fat or reduced fat entrees, and low fat or skim milk choices. Our menus are designed to meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, as well as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations. We encourage students, parents, community members, and staff to check the menu section of this website for the latest menus.
Student engagement is the key to a successful program! Our department is pleased to report that our student engagement programs are growing and providing positive results. These programs include Student Focus and Taste testing, Nutritional Education Connection Tour (NEXT) for students in 2nd grade, and the Annual Child Nutrition Culinary Cook-Off. New in our elementary schools this year is "Eat On The Beat".
- Student Focus and Taste test groups consist of the Student Government groups at both high schools, as well as many of our elementary and middle schools.
- The NEXT program provides students an opportunity to learn about the meals they eat at school, tour the kitchen, create a healthy snack, and learn about nutrition.
- The Culinary Cook-Off is designed to engage the Culinary Arts students at the Satellite Center to create some new recipes that are student approved.
- "Eat On The Beat" is a partnership with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office which will provide on-duty officers an opportunity to eat lunch with our elementary students.
St. Charles Parish School Nutrition Program is committed to protecting and enhancing children's health and well-being. School Nutrition is an integral part of the school learning environment.
Parents, please encourage your child to eat breakfast every day. This will improve their health and classroom performance. We are happy to serve them!
