AP

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) offers college-level study in a wide range of subjects and allows you to earn college credit if you earn a 3, 4 or 5 on the AP Exam.

  • Classes available sophomore year
  • Awarded as a credit on college transcript without a grade
  • Earns high school grade
  • Accepted by wide variety of colleges across the United States. Check with individual college for acceptance.
  • Earn 3-12 hours depending on score/subject and college.
  • Taught by certified teacher
  • Part of advanced studies program
  • Requirement for top-tier scholarships such as Quest Bridge, POSSEE, and Jack Kent Cooke

  CLEP

The College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), accepted by over 2,900 colleges and universities, lets you earn college credit for the knowledge that you have already acquired.

  • 33 CLEP exams
  • Earn 3 to 12 credits depending on score/exam subject and college.
  • Awarded as a credit on college transcript without a grade
  • Check with individual college for acceptance.
  • Modern States offers free online classes to prepare you for the CLEP.

 Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment courses are college level classes taught at Destrehan High School.  Students earn high school credit and college credit simultaneously.

  • English, math, science, social studies and electives
  • Earn 3 college hours per class
  • Counts as high school grade and grade on college transcript
  • Taught by certified teacher with support from high school teacher. Accepted by state universities in Louisiana.
  • Not always accepted at out of state schools. Check with colleges for acceptance (transfer credits may be accepted).
  • ACT Composite 19 – Math- 19, English 18 and 2.5 GPA
  • Juniors and Seniors only
  • 5QP Courses are part of the advanced studies program
  • Community College technical courses no qualifying GPA/ACT Score
