Student of the Year!
Claire Dufrene, daughter of Tyson and Monique Dufrene of Des Allemands, will represent J.B. Martin Middle School as its 2019 - 2020 Student of the Year.
Claire, a current eighth-grade student, serves as a member of the Talented Theatre program, National Jr. Beta Club, the Cougar Choirs program, Band program, Cougarettes Dance Team, and the 18-19 Lady Cougars Softball team. Claire has received numerous awards and recognitions for her efforts including, "Staff Choice, Star Dancer, and the Outstanding Performer Awards" with American All-Star Dance. Consistently ranking in the top percent of her class Claire has been an Honor Roll student for multiple years. Being selected as a lead character for theatre performances, Claire demonstrates love and commitment to the performing arts or any task she takes on.
In the community, Claire served as a team captain for Des Allemand's volleyball team and St. Charles Parish softball team. Recognized by the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation for academic achievement, Claire received the Taylor Scholar Award for Academic Excellence. Claire takes lessons at Dance Unlimited and enjoys volunteering her time for CCD at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Algebra I teacher, Angelle Robert, describes Claire as a "hard-working participant that is always willing to help others. Claire always has a positive attitude and consistently strives to do her best in every lesson during class."
Claire will continue with the other St. Charles Parish middle school Students of the Year for the chance to be the district-level winner.
