NES Important Dates and Information for the Week of 4/15/2024

Good Afternoon Norco Elementary School Families,

Wow, only six more weeks of school!  As we approach the end of the year, we have quite a bit of important learning and assessment occurring.  Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher and encourage your child to do their best each day.  We are here to assist you if you need us.  Please see below for some important information and refer to the attachments for the weekly memo.

  • Parent/Guardian SurveyParent input is vital in helping our school identify improvement opportunities. Please complete the brief survey at between April 15-26 to guide us in improving areas such as student achievement and school effectiveness. Please contact the School Board Office’s Technology Help Desk at 985-785-3126 with any questions you may have.   Students of families completing the survey will be allowed to dress down on Tuesday, April 30.   In order for our students to receive their dress-down pass, parents/guardians must return the sheet documenting that they completed the survey.  This will be sent home on Monday.

  • NES Young Author’s Celebration-The NES Young Author’s Celebration (by invitation only) is scheduled on Tuesday, April 16 from 5:45-7:00.  Dinner will be served between 5:45-6:15 under the 3rd-5th grade-covered area.   The awards ceremony will occur in the cafeteria.  

  • 3rd-5th grade Parent/Guardian Testing Meeting and Bingo night-  On Thursday, April 18th from 6:00-7:00 students and families in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade are invited to attend the 3-5 LEAP Testing Informational BINGO night!  Students will play BINGO and enjoy ice cream sundaes while parents get important information and resources about the LEAP assessment.  Parents will learn the testing sessions, testing format, and resources they can use for practice.  Mrs. Robert will share ways parents can help their children with test anxiety.  Your child(ren) came home with an invitation today; please complete the RSVP and we hope to see you there!

  • Kona Ice Concessions-Concessions are scheduled for Friday, April 19.  If you would like to purchase a snowball for your child, please send $3.00 this week.  Students may bring money anytime between Monday and the morning of Friday.  We will not be able to call into classes if money is dropped off on Friday as it disrupts instruction.  Please make sure that money is brought to school by Friday morning.  PTO is still in need of volunteers for concessions.  If you can volunteer, please sign up here.

  • Student of the Month Celebration-  Our Student of the Month celebration that was scheduled for Wednesday, April 10 was canceled due to the weather.  The celebration will be rescheduled for 9:15 am on Wednesday, May 1st.  We will NOT send home wristbands for this event and each child is allowed to bring two guests.  To ensure the safety of all of our students and faculty, all guests will be required to show their ID to enter and the district bag protocol will be followed.

  • Kindergarten through 3rd grade End of Year Dibels Assessment-  Please see below for the dates of our End of Year Dibels testing by grade levels.  Along with our progress monitoring data through the year, our End of the Year Screener data is used to determine the best ways to help our students grow as readers and provide the appropriate support needed to help them succeed.  It is extremely important our students attend school on these days and get a good night’s sleep.  Please avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during this period.

    • Kindergarten and 1st grade—April 19-24

    • 2nd and 3rd grade—April 25-26

  • LEAP Testing - 3rd through 5th graders will participate in LEAP testing on May 6-10, 2024.  It is extremely important our students attend school on these days.  Please avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during this period.

  • Breakfast and Lunch MenuApril breakfast and lunch menu. 

  • NES Parent and Student Handbook- The handbook with the new car rider procedure can be found here.  The handbook is organized alphabetically and a quick resource to find answers to your questions.

  • Social Media Sites—Please follow us on our Social Media accounts.  We will post to the sites frequently to help with communication and provide our families with pictures of the great things going on at NES!
