New Courses Coming in 2022!
The Satellite Center will be offering 3 new exciting courses in the 2022-2023 school year. These courses will be PTLW Human Body Systems, Piano and Sculpture/Pottery. Piano (Studio Piano I)
Students will learn to read and play music on the piano, gaining technical proficiency through the study and practice of scales, chords, and music literacy fundamentals.
Class will be held at the Lafon Performing Arts Center
Prerequisite: None Grade Level: 9-12 Credit: 1
PLTW Human Body Systems
Students examine the interactions of body systems as they explore identity, communication, power, movement, protection, and homeostasis. Students design experiments, investigate the structures and functions of the human body, and use data acquisition software to monitor body functions such as muscle movement, reflex and voluntary action, and respiration. Exploring science in action, students build organs and tissues on a skeletal manikin, work through interesting real world cases, and often play the role of biomedical professionals to solve medical mysteries.
This course offers the opportunity for students to become American Heart Association CPR certified as well as opportunities to develop appropriate professional behaviors. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course may include professional speakers from the industry and/or field experiences. Oral and written skills are reinforced in this course to provide opportunities for the student to develop clinical skills and appropriate professional behaviors. This course is offered at the Satellite Center and provides the opportunity for students to earn an Industry Based Certification of AHA CPR- BLS for Healthcare Providers.
PREREQUISITE: None (Principles of Biomedical??) Grade level: 10-12 Credit: 2 Fee: Must have Teacher Approved Scrub Pants and White Scrub Jacket, as well as Closed Toe Shoes

Sculpture & Pottery
This course is an introductory course in Sculpture and Ceramics. Students will cover the basics and methods of hand-building: pinch, slab, and coil techniques. Students will be introduced to art making through additive, subtractive and modeling processes of sculptural construction using multiple mediums. Art history, aesthetics and art criticism will be incorporated throughout the course. Class will beheld at the Lafon Performing Arts Center
Prerequisite: None Grade Level: 9-12 Credit: 2 (Double block class)
