DHS Student Named Presidential Scholar

Congratulations to Eric Jones of Destrehan High School for being selected as a 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar! Eric is one of only 161 high school seniors recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields across the country. The 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars are comprised of one young man and one young woman from each state.

Eric is a graduating senior at DHS and the 2020-2021 St. Charles Parish Public School’s High School Student of the Year. He is the son of Tiffany and the late Eddie Jones, Jr. of St. Rose.  He is active in the community and serves in many leadership roles at the school: is the Vice-President of the National Honor Society and Beta Club, serves on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, is a Student Council Senator, mentors incoming freshmen, and is a football player.  Eric has participated in courses and programs at several universities during his high school career including Tulane, Harvard, LSU, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Georgia.  After being offered academic scholarships to 13 schools, Eric has announced that he will attend Stanford University to study biomechanical engineering on a pre-med track.
