The School Board approved:

  • Board committee meeting minutes of October 18, meeting minutes of October 20, and retreat minutes of October 29, 2021.
  • Renewal of the general liability insurance package and aviation liability at a cost of $507,804.
  • Authorization to request qualifications for insurance enrollment services.
  • Qualifications from Hammerman & Gainer as the district’s third party administrator at an annual cost of $55,000.
  • Bid authorization request for HVAC replacement of the St. Charles Parish School Board Central Office.
  • Ratification of change order number three for the renovation of and addition to the Hahnville High School Gym at a cost of $15,818.53.
  • Ratification of change order number three for the roof replacement at E.J. Landry Alternative Center (Eual J. Landry Educational Programs Center) at a cost of $2,598.
  • Bid from Kent-Mitchell Bus Sales and Services, Inc. for the purchase of three buses equipped to transport students with special needs at a cost of $332,826.
  • Bid from Kent-Mitchell Bus Sales and Services, Inc. for the purchase of up to four school buses through a lease-purchase agreement at ten annual payments of $46,967.42.
  • Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with River Region Drama Guild for the Good Hope Property.
  • Second reading and adoption of revisions to Board Policy 1.03 – School Admissions.
  • Second reading and adoption of revisions to Board Policy 4.35 – Leave Without Pay.
  • First reading of revisions to Board Policy 4.29 – Retirement.
  • First reading of revisions to Board Policy 4.21 – Probation.
  • First reading of revisions to Board Policy 4.28 – Resignation.
  • First reading of revisions to Board Policy and Procedure 4.22 – Permanent Status Teachers and Administrators.

  • Request for proposals for the USDA Southeast Commodities Processing Cooperative Agreement.

Recognition

  • Fifty school system employees were honored for twenty years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
  • Thirty-two school system employees were honored for twenty-five years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
  • Nine school system employees were honored for thirty years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
  • Two Destrehan High School students have been named National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists.
  • A Hahnville High School student was named to the Cross Country All-District First Team.
  • Three school system students were named to the Louisiana All-Academic Volleyball Team.
  • Three school system students were named to the Louisiana All-Academic Cross Country Team.
  • Tina Chaisson, a Harry Hurst Middle School employee, was named the 2021 Louisiana Middle School Counselor of the Year by the Louisiana School Counselor Association.

 

Superintendent’s Report

  • Destrehan and Hahnville High Schools’ marching bands participated in the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands and the LMEA District VII Marching Festival.
  • Elementary and middle school band students participated in a clinic led by the Ellis Marsalis Jazz Orchestra.
  • Satellite Center dance students participated in a jazz workshop led by the Lula Elzy Dance Theatre.
  • J.B. Martin Middle School’s band and choir performed at the parish’s Veterans Day Ceremony.
  • Talented music students met with the performers of Close to You: The Music of the Carpenters.
  • Destrehan High School’s football team is the undefeated district champion and is currently in the playoffs. Hahnville High School’s football team lost in the first round of the playoffs.
  • The High School State Swim Meet will be held on November 19-20 in Sulphur.
  • Destrehan’s and Hahnville’s volleyball teams made it to the first round of playoffs.
  • Hahnville’s and Destrehan’s cross country teams participated in the state meet in Natchitoches.
  • School buildings will be closed November 22-26 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. November 22-23 are considered asynchronous learning day
