Action Items

The School Board approved:

  • Resolution in memory of Kellie Growl who served as an educator in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 18 years.
  • Resolution in memory of Darryl Honor who served as a custodian in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 39.5 years.
  • Board committee meeting minutes of May 4, board meeting minutes of May 11, and board retreat minutes of June 6, 2022.
  • Reappointment of Stephanie Gullage and Rosemary Sanders to the Dr. Rodney R. Lafon Performing Arts Center Endowment Fund Board for July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023.
  • Appointment of Felecia Gomez-Walker to the Dr. Rodney R. Lafon Performing Arts Center Endowment Fund Board for July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2025.
  • Bid authorization request for demolition of the Hahnville Learning Center.
  • Proposal from International Property Developments, LLC (DBA Signature Group LLC) for emergency construction of building components and/or grounds.
  • Personnel.
  • Revisions to Head Start job descriptions.
  • First reading of revisions to Policy 4.23 – Evaluation of Staff Members.
  • Creation of Technology Installation Center Facility Coordinator position at a cost ranging between $61,194 and $70,749 (salary and benefits).
  • Phase one of the district staffing plan to transition contracted temporary positions to district positions at an annual cost of $1,606,337.
  • Increase to pay rates for AM/PM positions beginning with the 2022-2023 fiscal year at a cost ranging between $214,720 and $319,246.
  • Selection of the St. Charles Herald-Guide as the official journal for the 2022-2023 school year at an approximate cost of $15,000.
  • Accounts payable for May totaling $8,612,575.
  • Superintendent’s evaluation and contract review to include Amendment III.

 

Recognition

  • Two Destrehan High School students have been named National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists and Scholarship Winners.
  • Two Hahnville High School students were named to the Class 5A All-State Softball Team.
  • Six high school students were named to an LHSAA All-Academic Composite Team.
  • Six high school students were named to the All-District Tennis First Team.
  • Three high school students were named to the Bayou/River All-League Tennis First Team.
  • Brian Gough, a Luling Elementary School employee, was named as the 2022 Louisiana Public Interest Fellow.

 

Superintendent’s Report

  • The school system has worked closely with our parish emergency operations center to make sure the district has a comprehensive plan for preparing and responding to hurricane events.
  • Charles Parish Public Schools received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association and the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International.
  • Charles Parish Public Schools is hosting several summer learning opportunities for students.
  • Hundreds of teachers are attending professional development sessions this summer.
  • The Annual St. Charles Parish Youth Rally Backpack Giveaway will be held on July 30 from 9 AM – 12 PM in the parking lot of the Lafon Arts Center.
  • A replica of the original Allemands Elementary School and other artifacts will be displayed throughout St. Charles Parish in the upcoming year.
