The School Board approved:

  • Resolution in memory of Ms. Lea Ann Harper who served as an art teacher in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 20 years.
  • Resolution in memory of Mr. Ronald St. Pierre who served as a school board member in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 28 years.
  • Resolution in memory of Mr. Jesse Crain who served as a teacher in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 27 years.
  • Resolution in memory of Ms. Jacqueline Clements who served as the Food Service Director for 31 years in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
  • Proclamation promoting the 2023 United Way of St. Charles 5K Bridge Run.
  • Proclamation declaring April 2023 as Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month.
  • Proclamation declaring April as School Library Month.
  • Insurance committee meeting minutes of February 2, board committee meeting minutes of February 6, and board meeting minutes of February 8, 2023.
  • Resolution for legal services with Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A.
  • Change order number one for restoration of the Hurricane Ida damaged roof at Ethel Schoeffner Elementary School resulting in a credit of $1,000.
  • Substantial completion of the restoration of the Hurricane Ida damaged roof at Ethel Schoeffner Elementary School.
  • Change order number one for HVAC replacement at the St. Charles Parish School Board Office at a cost of $12,646.
  • Substantial completion of HVAC replacement at the St. Charles Parish School Board Office.
  • Change order number two for the restoration of Hurricane Ida damages at Destrehan High School’s Building A resulting in a credit of $25,000.
  • Substantial completion of the restoration of Hurricane Ida damages at Destrehan High School’s Building A.
  • Use of two cafeteria facilities for the St. Charles Parish Council’s Summer Food Service Program.
  • Purchase of two buses equipped for transporting students with special needs and five regular, 65-passenger buses from Kent-Mitchell Bus Sales & Service, Inc. using the 2022 bus bid terms at a cost of $850,819.
  • Second reading and adoption of revisions to Board Policy 1.4 – School Board Meetings.
  • Receipt of personnel items.
  • Accounts payable for February 2023 totaling $9,436,069.

 

 

Recognition

  • Six Hahnville High School students received superior ratings at the State Thespian Festival.
  • Samuel Simoneaux, a Hahnville High School student, was named to an LHSAA All-Academic Composite Team.
  • Gabriella Cook, a Hahnville High School student, is an Individual Wrestling State Champion.
  • Four school system students were named to the All-District Basketball First Team.
  • Five Hahnville High School students were named to the All-District Football First Team.
  • Marley Richard, a Destrehan High School student, is the Triple Jump Indoor Track State Champion and was named the Field Events MVP at the state meet.
  • Reiss Victory, a Harry Hurst Middle School student, placed third in the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals Poster Contest.
  • Lexi Ford, a J.B. Martin Middle School student, placed second at the Universal Dance Association’s Louisiana Dance Challenge.
  • Barry Guillot, a Harry Hurst Middle School employee, was named an Outstanding Science Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Science Teachers Association.
  • Jade Gallagher, a Destrehan High School employee, was named to the Louisiana High School Coaching Association’s East/West Girls Soccer Team Coaching Staff.
  • St. Charles Public Schools Foundation received a $100,000 grant from Valero St. Charles Refinery.
  • School dance teams placed at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) Louisiana Dance Challenge, the American All-Star Louisiana State Dance Team Championship, and the Dance Team Union (DTU) Regional Competition: Destrehan High School Desty Darlings, Hahnville High School Hi-Steppers, Harry Hurst Middle School Runnerettes, and J.B. Martin Middle School Cougarettes.
  • Destrehan High School Desty Darlings placed fifth for game day and tenth for hip-hop at the UDA Nationals Competition.
  • Hahnville High School Hi-Steppers placed third in kick and spirit showdown and first (national champion) for team at the DTU National Competition.

 

 

 

Superintendent’s Report

  • Hahnville High School Girls Soccer Team is the district champion and made it to the second round of the playoffs.
  • Hahnville High School Boys Soccer Team is the district champion and made it to the first round of the playoffs
  • Hahnville High School Girls Basketball and Destrehan High School Girls Soccer and Boys Basketball Teams made it to the first round of the playoffs.
  • Hahnville High School Boys and Destrehan High School Girls Basketball Teams made it to the second round of the playoffs.
  • Alex Cook is an Individual Wrestling District Champion and placed fifth in the state tournament. 
  • The 16th annual St. Charles Parish Public Schools ArtsFest will take place Saturday, March 18 at the Dr. Rodney R. Lafon Performing Arts Center from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • The deadline to submit a Staff Achievement nomination is Monday, March 27.
  • The school system has incurred a total of $49,133,383 in Hurricane Ida recovery expenses.
