 Action Items

The School Board approved:

• Resolution in memory of Vevlyn Adams who served as an educator in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 27 years.
• Resolution in memory of Freddie Seal who served as an educator in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 41 years.
• Resolution in memory of Dr. Juanita Haydel who served as an educator in St. Charles Parish Public Schools for 29.5 years.
• Board committee meeting minutes of October 24 and board meeting minutes of October 25, 2023.
• Renewal of the automobile physical damage insurance policy to cover 22 leased buses (model years 2019 through 2023) for a 16.5-month term at an estimated cost of $70,000.
• Second reading and adoption of 2024-2025 school session calendar.
• Request for school-level administrative support at an approximate annual cost of $170,000 - $245,000.
• Receipt of personnel items.
• Request for proposals for the USDA Southeast Commodities Processing Cooperative Agreement.
• Accounts payable for October 2023 totaling $6,300,479.

Recognition

• Thirty-nine school system employees were recognized for 20 years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
• Twenty-seven school system employees were recognized for 25 years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
• Twelve school system employees were recognized for 30 years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
• Becky Weber was recognized for 35 years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
• Peggy Ayala and John Smith were recognized for 50 years of service in St. Charles Parish Public Schools.
• Tyron Martin, a Hahnville High School student, placed second in the 2023 Northwestern State University High School Essay Contest.
• Five Hahnville High School students were named to the All-District Cross Country First Team.
• Five high school students were named to an LHSAA All-Academic Composite Team.
• Six high school students were named to the 2023-2024 LMEA All-State Honor Band.
• Twenty-one high school students were named to the 2023-2024 LMEA District VII Honor Band.
• Hahnville High School Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams are District Champions.

Superintendent’s Report

• November is National Family Literacy Month.
• High school LEAP assessments will be administered from December 5-7.
• Destrehan High School’s football team is the undefeated district champion and is currently in the playoffs.
• Destrehan High School and Hahnville High School swim teams are heading to Sulphur for the State Swim Meet.
• Hahnville High School’s volleyball team advanced to the second round of playoffs.
• Hahnville High School’s girls and boys cross country teams are District Champions and participated in the state meet in Natchitoches.
• Destrehan and Hahnville High School’s marching bands participated in the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands and the LMEA District VII Marching Festival.
• The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the St. Charles Parish School Board the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
• Schools will be closed November 20-24 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
